‘Tis the Season…

‘Tis the season to be jolly…fa la la la la, la la la la! So, I have to admit it, I’m in the holiday spirit and I can’t fight it. There’s just something about this time of the year that seems to put an extra spring in everyone’s step, and an extra wide smile on everyone’s face as we race toward the first extended break of the school year. I’m still on a high honestly from last week’s amazing holiday concerts, and of course there was last night’s holiday party where we all came together to celebrate what we’ve accomplished as a team over the past 4 months…I feel full of love, and life, and happiness, and I want to share it with all of you. The positive energy around school is palpable these days, and I want to bottle it up so we have some extra saved up if we ever need it. The thing about this faculty though (and I want to share this with the world) is that you always seem to be in the holiday spirit! It’s been a very long semester as you know, with only three long weekends since August, but it hasn’t dampened your spirits at all. There’s something special happening around here and it has everything to do with who you are as educators and people. Your professionalism, your work ethic, your courage, and your attitudes have truly begun to transform our organization and it feels like a gift to be a part of that.

So before we all take off to spend some long overdue time with our friends and families, and to chase down some much needed adventure and fun, I want to say thank you for being so amazing throughout this first semester. Thank you for all that you’ve given to our students, thank you for being so focused on bringing our strategic plan to life, and most importantly, thank you for doing it all with such caring and positive attitudes. I want to wish you all a safe and happy holiday break, and I truly hope that you take this time for yourselves……..relax, reflect, and re-energize……you certainly deserve it after all the hard work you given to Academia Cotopaxi over the last four and a half months. This has easily been the most enjoyable and rewarding semester of my professional life and it’s all because of you. I’m proud and honored to work alongside you every day……..Happy Holidays everyone and a very Happy New Year! Here’s one of my favorite poems, which speaks to the opportunity that we all have over the holiday to connect with the people we love, and to re-connect with ourselves. Thank you everyone for making me want to sprint to work every day, and for making this job such a lottery win for me and my family. Have a wonderful final week, and remember to be great for our students and oozing with holiday spirit for each other…

Holidays
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The holiest of all holidays are those
Kept by ourselves in silence and apart;
The secret anniversaries of the heart,
When the full river of feeling overflows;–
The happy days unclouded to their close;
The sudden joys that out of darkness start
As flames from ashes; swift desires that dart
Like swallows singing down each wind that blows!
White as the gleam of a receding sail,
White as a cloud that floats and fades in air,
White as the whitest lily on a stream,
These tender memories are;–a fairy tale
Of some enchanted land we know not where,
But lovely as a landscape in a dream.

Quote of the Week…..

I wish we could put up some of the holiday spirit in jars and open a jar of it every month.
